Without doubt the east coast of Scotland is the most popular golfing region with
visiting golfers. The courses are neatly clustered together so that you spend more
time playing golf and relaxing afterward and less time on the road.
Based in St. Andrews you can easily play Carnoustie, Kingsbarns and all the St. Andrews
Courses, including the Old, New, Jubilee and Castle. Down the coast about 40-minuites
from St. Andrews Crail, Leven, Lundin Links and Elie await. Just east of Edinburgh we
can add Muirfield, Gullane, North Berwick and Dunbar! The Scottish east coast is quiet
simply the world's most famous golf region.
DAY #1
Arrive Scotland & St. Andrews and meet your driver/guide. Drive to St.
Andrews for a 5-night stay at Rusacks Hotel in St Andrews overlooking the first
and 18th holes of the world-renowned Old Course. Other accommodation options
include the Old Corse Hotel and the Scores Hotel.
Enjoy a relaxing afternoon in and around St. Andrews. Stop at Falkland Palace and
Gardens, connected with Scottish kings since the 14th century. See Holy Trinity
Church, St. Andrews Cathedral and Priory, founded in 1160 and the Castle of
St. Andrews dating back to the 13th century.
DAY #2
Golf on St. Andrews New Course, founded in 1895 and designed by
Tom Morris, the New Course is played on the same stretch of revered links-land as
the famed Old Course. A bit longer and requiring slightly more precision, it
is rightly considered the equal of the Old Course and a great challenge.
DAY #3
Play Carnoustie, thought Walter Hagen, is the greatest course
in the British Isles and one having the toughest finish in golf.
I'm sure Padraig Harrington would agree! The unfriendly burns,
the relentless winds, and the sheer length of the course test the
abilities of all golfers. Carnoustie was founded in 1842.
DAY #4
Play on St. Andrews Old Course, long considered the home of golf.
All the Greats have competed on this hallowed turf, where golf has been played
for over 400 years. It is every golfers dream to stand on the first tee
at St. Andrews Old Course at least once!
The Old Course dates back to the 16th century.
DAY #5
Golf at Kingsbarns, located directly on the North Sea coast
only six miles from St. Andrews, Kingsbarns is without a doubt one of the most
breathtaking links courses ever developed. The significance of the development
was highlighted by Sir Michael Bonallack, winner of five British Amateur Titles
and captain of the R & A when he indicated that "Kingsbarns might well be one of
the last true seaside links sites capable of development in Scotland". The links
boasts spacious fairways, which roll and twist through majestic dune ridges and
hollows, as sea figures prominently on every hole.
DAY #6
Play on North Berwick, there is probably more that is traditional
in golf at North Berwick than any other course in Scotland. You will be treated to
exhilarating shot opportunities along the ocean, over stone walls and some very
interesting blind shots. An experience not to be missed.
After a fine day of golf, check in to your new accommodations at The Marine Hotel
where you will be spending 3 nights overlooking North Berwick's championship links,
enjoying a wealth of comforts in the well-equipped leisure centre.
Other accommodation options include the Greywalls and Balmoral Hotel.
DAY #7
Golf at Gullane #1, noted for fast greens and high rough,
it is an Open qualifier that tests one's skills in winds that fly in from all
directions. The dazzling 7th green is set amidst the Firth of Forth and the
hills of Fife and offers breath-taking scenery. With its choice turf and
brilliant greens, this course has often been compared to the famous Muirfield.
DAY #8
Golf at Muirfield, the home of The Honourable Company of
Edinburgh Golfers whose records date back to 1744 when the Club wrote the original
13 Rules of Golf for the first competition played for the Silver Club.
Muirfield is the only course to have hosted the Open (15 times, the most recent in 2002),
the Amateur, the Mid Amateur, the Ryder Cup, the Walker Cup and the Curtis Cup.
FINAL DAY #9
Depart Scotland and transfer to Edinburgh Airport to board your flight back home.
